Birthday month

October is my favorite month!! I love Fall, I love Halloween, and my birthday is a week before Halloween (I think I was born a week early) so this is my birthday month. Since I was a kid, I have had Halloween-themed birthdays with Halloween cakes, decorations, pumpkins, etc.

We have a great tradition in my family that not only can you celebrate your birth-day, but some years you may celebrate a birthday week or even a birthday month by doing fun things that you want to do for a longer period of time. You could also say things to your little brother like "be nice to me, it's my birthday month" or "the last brownie without edges is mine, cause it's my birthday week" (my brother and I always wanted the brownies in the center of the pan without edges so we would argue over the last center brownie).
Anyway----in the tradition of quilty bloggers, I am having a giveaway to celebrate my birthday. A couple of Moda charm packs, a great pattern by my friend Pat of Silver Thimble Quilt Co. and some Halloween stuff. I will probably add some more fun treats before this gets sent out to the lucky winner.

Here's the details if you are interested in the drawing:

1. Leave a comment on this post and let me know what your favorite Halloween costume was (in the past or last year--doesn't matter) and you get your name in the drawing once.
2. If you mention this giveaway and add a photo of yourself in costume on your blog, you get your name in twice! (if you don't have a photo of yourself in costume, you can use a child, pet, or something you want to be :)
3. Deadline is noon (EST) on Sunday, October 26. If you don't have a blog, make sure you add your email address in the comment.
I'll get y'all started:
Here is me as Isis (check out the blue eyeshadow!). In case, you didn't watch The Secrets of Isis on TV in the 1970s here's a photo and info from Wikipedia:
(see the resemblance? Mom did a great job on the costume!)
From Wikipedia: "The Secrets of Isis (also called simply, "Isis") starred JoAnna Cameron as Andrea Thomas, a high school science teacher who found an ancient mystical amulet on an archeological dig in Egypt. The amulet belonged to Hatshepsut, an ancient Egyptian Queen and it gave the wearer the powers of Isis... Whenever Isis was needed, Andrea would reveal the amulet and incite an incantation ("Oh, mighty Isis!") and she would be transformed into the goddess Isis. As Isis she was given great strength, the ability to move inanimate objects, and the power to fly and run at super speed...Unlike other superheroes who responded when people called their name, Isis often came to the rescue of people who didn't call for her, arriving in the nick of time and encouraging the wrongdoer to see the error of their ways through self-reflection." (Did anyone else watch this or was it just me???)
Thanks for helping me celebrate!!!!!!

Happy birthday month-may you always get the center brownie. My favorite costume for Halloween was one I made for Kris when she was in kindergarden. (I will have to try to locate a picture of it to show you some time in the futrue..but anyway it was during the height of the cabbage patch craze and the costume was a giant cabbage-with individual leaves all stitched together-yards and yards of green material!

An early HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you. My dad used to enjoy making us costumes. They always won prizes but they were VERY hard to walk around in for trick-or-treating. One time,he took a large box from a refrigerator and made me be a VOTING BOOTH. I wish they'd taken photos, but in those days, film was an expense they couldn't afford. I can tell you the voting booth won the school costume contest and had a lever with a curtain that opened and closed...very clever....BUT...I hated trying to go up and down stairs with that to collect me candy on Halloween night!!! I'll put my email address below since I don't have a blog....just in case I get lucky and win!!! LOL

Birthday month!? I love it! My birthday is in December, and by nature of December birthdays...we typically get screwed in the festivities department (unless you throw yourself parties like I do!)
So Happy Birthday Month!! I love the idea!

I am not a quilter and really wouldn't know how to use your prizes (though I think its a neat idea!) but I thought I'd contribute two of my Halloween favorites:

My first one belonged to me. I wore a billboard-type sign over the front of my body that said "I am from Venice" along with a pair of black sunglasses. What was I? A Venetian blind! HA!

My other favorite belonged to Wonder Pup. She was bad one year and ran away right before Halloween, so her punishment was a costume. She had a black cape on and a black headpiece...she was "Dogula." :) She ran all over the house with the cape flailing behind her. But she hated the headpiece!

Must respond to Laurie's comment regarding her birthday.....she was late!!! And so sometimes her birthday got celebrated in Jan or even Feb> It is hard getting kids to a party the week before Christmas. You should ask her about Thanksgiving and the ends she goes to to not eat turkey!

My sister and I loved Isis! We also loved Elecktra Woman and Dyna girl and Bigfoot and Wildboy! Ha ha....I'll look for some Halloween pictures to post! I've introduced my daughters to Linda Carter as Wonder Woman...they love it! Happy Birthday!

I was Raggedy Anne when I was 3, and I was completely adorable, if I do say so myself!! I haven't decided what I'm going to dress up as for handing out candy this year. I'll probably drag out my Lord of the Rings costume from a few years back.

Happy Birthday Month! :)

I don't remember having a purchased costume when I was a kid. I'll have to ask my brothers. I don't think Mom ever bought us costumes. I remember going as a ghost (white sheet) and beatniks (large sweatshirt with tights). My favorite costume was the year my son was born. He had a dalmatian costume. At my school, we dressed as book characters. Most of the staff dresses as "101 Dalmatians." Fun :) I'll post a picture on my blog.

Happy Birthday! Hope that your day is sensational!

Happy Birthday month to you! Mine, as you know, is this month, too!

My birthdays were always Halloween themed. I was born on the 28th, so I had parties at school, but my parties with family and other friends were always on Halloween. Haunted Houses were fun, too. I guess I have lots of birthday memories.

I'll try to find me in costume and post it on my blog before Sunday.

Thanks for visiting my blog today!

My favorite Halloween costume was actually the year I made my 5 grandchildren characters from the Wizard of OZ. We took them to have their picture taken professionally and they were adorable.
Happy Birthday to a great lady!!

I'd love to enter your give-away. While I don't have a picture, my favorite Halloween costume was the year I dressed a television set -- we used a big box that a TV actually came in, and cut out the "screen" and there I was inside wearing a Howdy Doody mask and plaid shirt! Gives you a clue of how old I am!
