Fun Weekend

Halloween b-day cake!
It's my b-day weekend! And I'm having lots of fun watching movies, hanging out with friends, and of course, fabric, food, and cake are all in there somewheres too.

Sarah (no blog), Karin and Becky

Melisa at Sweet Home Quilt Co. was having a big sale on her porch.  Lots of quilters and Silver Thimble members showed up to stock up on patterns, books, and fabric. I bought some yardage for backings and a kit on sale.

S., E. and I went to Fox Bros. BBQ last night to celebrate my birthday.  I love barbecue and have several favorite BBQ joints around the metro area.  Fox Bros. is Texas-style BBQ and is always packed (you have to get there early or wait and wait and wait).

A pint of local brew and fried dill pickles with ranch sauce--YUM!

E. had beef short ribs (looks more like something from the Flintstones!!), fried okra and Frito pie (Frito chips, chili, and cheese served in the little bag).

I think I'll eat salad all next week!
 S. had chopped pork and I had chopped beef brisket.  Their mac n' cheese is wonderful, the jalapeno cornbread with honey butter is to die for, and so is their banana pudding (made with real custard instead of box pudding). We left stuffed and with lunch for later. I had my banana pudding for breakfast :)

Last night we watched the movie Zombieland. It's a very funny movie (if you like zombie movies) and was filmed in Georgia so it was fun identifying all the locations.

Hope everyone is having a great October weekend!!!!

Can Someone Please Press Pause???

I am not ready for November. In fact, let's rewind back to October. I am still trying to wade through blog posts and emails. If I haven't commented or replied, I am sorry and I will get through everything and I thank you all for commenting and emailing and just being out there in bloggyland.

Since I returned from Michigan, I have been running around like my hair was on fire, working working working. For my day-job, our office relocated over the weekend which means all last week was packing packing packing, supervising movers late at night and on the weekend, and starting tomorrow unpacking unpacking unpacking. So I worked all weekend there and at SBux and missed Bad Melisa's Spooktacular party , and missed watching "Nightmare Before Christmas" and singing along with all the songs and missed carving pumpkins. Foo!

I also missed posting a photo of my super-fantastic-best-birthday-cake-ever that I had in Michigan. (thanks again Mom!!!)
I always ask for Halloween-themed b-day cakes since it's a week before Halloween. Lots of purple, a moon, plump frosting pumpkins, polka-dots and a witch--now that's a cake!!
The cake is marble cake with buttercream icing and is from Sweet and Savory Bakeshop. This was the BEST bakery cake I've ever had--perfect tasty cake and perfect not too sweet, creamy frosting. I heart Sweet and Savory Bakeshop but am REALLY glad it is nowhere close to me or I would have to make up some holidays to celebrate....I'm just saying.

Oh hello is this blog ever going to get back to quilting????? you are asking. Yes, I am working on something right now that should be done this upcoming weekend since November is dragging me along with it....

Haz Mat and Birthdays

Gomez insisted on being first in this post because too many of the previous posts have featured Morpheus. Gratuitous Gomez photo here:

Still no sewing going on here. I cleaned house yesterday, which was way overdue. I can now call the EPA and inform them that my shower is no longer a Superfund site.

We have been celebrating S.'s b-day weekend this weekend. He didn't want to go to a quilt shop--can you imagine???!!?? I don't know how you can celebrate a b-day without going to a quilt shop but apparently it can be done. He did have his favorite foods this weekend--grilled steak, potatoes and sauteed mushrooms last night. Brownies with walnuts (no frosting--what's up with that???!!!! The boy does not know how to live!). And tonight matzo ball soup.
Happy B-day S.!

Birthday month

October is my favorite month!! I love Fall, I love Halloween, and my birthday is a week before Halloween (I think I was born a week early) so this is my birthday month. Since I was a kid, I have had Halloween-themed birthdays with Halloween cakes, decorations, pumpkins, etc.

We have a great tradition in my family that not only can you celebrate your birth-day, but some years you may celebrate a birthday week or even a birthday month by doing fun things that you want to do for a longer period of time. You could also say things to your little brother like "be nice to me, it's my birthday month" or "the last brownie without edges is mine, cause it's my birthday week" (my brother and I always wanted the brownies in the center of the pan without edges so we would argue over the last center brownie).
Anyway----in the tradition of quilty bloggers, I am having a giveaway to celebrate my birthday. A couple of Moda charm packs, a great pattern by my friend Pat of Silver Thimble Quilt Co. and some Halloween stuff. I will probably add some more fun treats before this gets sent out to the lucky winner.

Here's the details if you are interested in the drawing:

1. Leave a comment on this post and let me know what your favorite Halloween costume was (in the past or last year--doesn't matter) and you get your name in the drawing once.
2. If you mention this giveaway and add a photo of yourself in costume on your blog, you get your name in twice! (if you don't have a photo of yourself in costume, you can use a child, pet, or something you want to be :)
3. Deadline is noon (EST) on Sunday, October 26. If you don't have a blog, make sure you add your email address in the comment.
I'll get y'all started:
Here is me as Isis (check out the blue eyeshadow!). In case, you didn't watch The Secrets of Isis on TV in the 1970s here's a photo and info from Wikipedia:
(see the resemblance? Mom did a great job on the costume!)
From Wikipedia: "The Secrets of Isis (also called simply, "Isis") starred JoAnna Cameron as Andrea Thomas, a high school science teacher who found an ancient mystical amulet on an archeological dig in Egypt. The amulet belonged to Hatshepsut, an ancient Egyptian Queen and it gave the wearer the powers of Isis... Whenever Isis was needed, Andrea would reveal the amulet and incite an incantation ("Oh, mighty Isis!") and she would be transformed into the goddess Isis. As Isis she was given great strength, the ability to move inanimate objects, and the power to fly and run at super speed...Unlike other superheroes who responded when people called their name, Isis often came to the rescue of people who didn't call for her, arriving in the nick of time and encouraging the wrongdoer to see the error of their ways through self-reflection." (Did anyone else watch this or was it just me???)
Thanks for helping me celebrate!!!!!!
