February Snow in Atlanta

I'm sure everyone in the Mid-Atlantic is sick of seeing snow, but here in Georgia, we were feeling left out of the fun. I was so excited to hear that it was supposed to snow on Friday and snow it did,

arriving fashionably late around 1:00PM instead of 11:00AM as forecasted. The snow was heavy, wet flakes that stuck to the trees and grass and eventually the roads. The sky was dull gray, a real snow-day sky.

It snowed so much for such a long period of time that Starbucks closed early, 7:30PM instead of 11:00PM, and I only worked a couple of hours. And yes, we all did a "Snow Day at Starbucks" dance for that one. I was so grateful for S. who drove me to and from Starbucks so I didn't have to deal with crazy drivers on the roads (people in Atlanta drive horribly in dry, clear weather let alone rain and especially let alone snow!)

Of course any snowstorm in Georgia is well photo-documented by just about everyone with any kind of camera. I even went out at night to take photos of the falling snow

(I have about 50-11 more photos but will spare y'all...)

This was a fabulous "snow event" for Atlanta. We had 4 inches of snow, 4 inches!!!! and frozen icy roads by the evening. People who were smart, and could, went home and stayed home.

Of course as soon as I woke up, I grabbed the camera to get more photos before it melted. It was in the low 20s F in the morning so everything stayed frozen.
The morning's entertainment included listening to cars sliding around on the road and watching the birds. The cats mostly slept, as usual...

The sun is shining brightly now and the roads are clearing up. Snow days are rare and brief here in Georgia but are immensely fun no matter how old you are, especially if you get to stay home and enjoy them.

I love this photo taken at 8:00 AM this morning. Happy Snow Day!

Mr. Gomez's big day out

Gomez is undoubtedly mad at me today for taking him to the vet to have his teeth cleaned. I'm not sure what he thought was worse: the car ride, the vet, or having to go out in 24F weather this morning. When you are a cat who sleeps on heat vents and snuggly quilts and the only chill you experience is if you happen to sit too close to the refrigerator, I'm sure 24F was not pleasant this morning. Poor Mr. Gomez. He has shiny clean teeth now though but don't expect him to smile about it....

Gomez says: "Don't expect me to pay attention to you or the camera either."

These are the side effects of being a quilter sick in bed all weekend with laptop and a stack of quilting books and magazines to read.....

They really need to put more warning labels on cold medicine....

I'm just sayin'.....

A Rural Jardin layer cake....

and a little Verna for a Schnibble I think....

Sunday musings

My time is up for being sick. I'm sure you all have the same issue; there is a certain amount of time that I can be sick before my household devolves into chaos, litter boxes need cleaning, crunchy floors need vacuuming and sweeping, laundry needs washing, and the Earth may actually stop its rotation if I am not better and out of bed.

For me, it's 2 1/2 days and my 2 1/2 days are up. I knew this yesterday while I was popping cold medicine every four hours and drinking 50-11 cups of tea with honey. Tick tock, you must get well because two- and four-legged creatures are depending on you. That's just the way it is with "moms"--using the broadest sense of the term--the person who keeps the house going--making sure everyone is fed, watered, vaccinated, and eats fresh fruit and vegetables, that furnace filters are changed, bathrooms are cleaned, and birthday cards are sent. It's not the banks who are too big to fail that keep the world going, it's the great uncredited "moms" that are too necessary to be sick.

So when two- and four-legged creatures wake up and someone remembered to buy bandaids, gives you hairball medicine, knows where the instructions for the six-year old lawnmower are, has shirts ironed on Sunday for you to wear on Monday, retrieves favorite toys from underneath the stove, and oh yeah, the Earth is still rotating, remember who is behind all this and give a little thanks. Purring is accepted.

Send Kleenex!

I am home sick today in bed with a nasty cold. Foo! I hate being sick! I have too much to do to be sick! Whine whine whine! Well at least I have Morpheus to keep me company; he is very happy to have me home in bed. In his advanced years, Morph spends most of the day sleeping on the bed, snuggled in quilts and pillows with his toys. S. was so sweet last night and made me soup and tea. Well at least I have my laptop and can surf and read blogs and answer emails. Oh and plan new quilt projects and check out new fabrics. That always makes me feel better! Any suggestions? What new fabrics are you drooling over?

A Cereal-for-Dinner Kind of Night

It's one of those nights when you have already had a really busy week, worked late every night, it's only Wednesday, and you immediately dump all your stuff on the floor, put on your pjs, and crawl into bed. Time for some blog surfing and cereal and an early bedtime.
