How to Procrastinate Cleaning Out an Attic on a Tuesday

Rewatching the Season 3 premiere of "Sherlock".

I highly recommend it.

Hibernating!

I'm sure everyone has heard or seen Atlanta's continuing ice and snow. I bet even the researchers at the Antarctic research station have seen the footage of Atlanta drivers sliding and crashing into each other. We still have below freezing temperatures and scattered snow left in shady spots. I don't remember ever having such a long period of really cold weather here in the South. At Chez Crazy Cat Lady, we are all in hibernation mode. Nothing much going on here but staying bundled up in quilts.
This is the amount of snow that can shut down Atlanta (about 1/2" or so) with a little ice underneath.
My oak leaf hydrangea in the snow and the poor camellias that are probably a lost cause.

One way to stay warm is to do some major cooking and hang out in the kitchen. I decided to make some hearty comfort food--Shepard's pie. Lots of fresh veggies

Mashed potatoes and parsnips mixed with non-fat yogurt instead of butter and milk
Here it is ready for the oven.
Super yummy goodness and there's lots more for the rest of the week until we thaw out.

From the ministry of silly walks...

I often think about cutting back on cable tv costs but then something great appears on an obscure channel and I decide against cutting back. (an aside: Don't you wish you could just pay for the channels you watch? I could get rid of so many...)

I am having so much fun watching the 6-part Monty Python documentary on the Independent Film Channel and episodes of the Flying Circus. I love me some Python!

Good Times

Well Friday and Saturday turned out to be lots of fun and made up for a rather blah week. Friday night, S. and I went to see John Oliver (from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and "The Bugle" podcast) perform at Georgia Tech.
We had second row seats.
Guess who was the geek who called the second tickets went on sale?
Um, yes, that would be me...

Seth Meyers, who does the Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live, was the opening act. I think I was laughing to hard and forgot to take a photo.

Both comedians were great! I am so glad we went because sometimes you just actually need to get out of the house and have some big fun. This show was big fun.

Did I mention that John Oliver was great?

Saturday was my sewing group meeting. There was some great show n' tell that should be up on Pat's blog soon. It was fun sewing with Karin, Cindi, Becky, and Sarah. We are all planning on meeting at Sweet Home Quilt Co. on Friday for Bad Melisa's midnight madness sale.

Furlough Friday #2

Here I am on furlough again (thanks Governor--not!) I have been rather blah this whole week. I think it is the dregs of summer, not the dog days of summer because dogs make me smile and I seemed to have lost my smile this week.

Hopefully that will change as I am going to see John Oliver (from the "Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and my favorite podcast "The Bugle") perform. I've never been to a live comedy act before so I'm looking forward to it.

Well Morph and I need to get busy sewing on his quilt. More later.

I (heart) BBC 4

I have a new love--BBC 4 radio on-line. How did I ever sew without it? Thanks CMD for the recommendation!!! Last weekend, I spent a lot of time listening to "Open Country" and various political and environmental shows. There was archaeologists--on the radio--historical places--on the radio--discussions of climate change--on the radio--interviews with sheep farmers--on the radio! I am such a nerd.

Now I have something to listen to while I am waiting for new episodes of "The Bugle" podcast. (For the irreverent at heart you can find The Bugle at www.timesonline.co.uk)

PS: I wonder if Amanda and Jane will get a kick out of this post?
